Logmodernism:
signalling a new era in construction
Retrace is a new-age home. It is the pioneer of an evolved form of architecture. Logmodern homes are built with far more than aesthetics in mind. The benefits that come with living in Retrace’s wooden homes impact every aspect of your life and wellbeing at the individual, family, and community level.

The minimalist geometry of Japanese design
The sleek elegant lines seen in Japanese houses are brought to Retrace and recreated in wood, with elements of Japanese geometry being highlighted in various ways all over the project, including the landscape design.
Japan’s clean lines and Scandinavian wood make for the perfect match to create impactful architecture.

Meets the meaningful traditions of Southern India
Since ancient times, South Indian homes are characterised by a central courtyard which acts as a source of natural light, breeze, and ventilation to all areas of the home. It also acts as a central gathering spot for families and communities to convene, relax, and bond.
Retrace brings the abundance of wealth found in the ancient revered courtyard design to the modern age, by introducing a more contemporary take to a traditional South Indian design feature.

Retrace is built using materials that come from the Earth itself
1
Finnish log wood
Scandinavian log wood obtained through circular forestry, which contributes to a lower carbon footprint in the long run.
2
Sleek Aluminium
Infinitely recyclable aluminium for definition of geometry, inspired by Japanese design techniques.
3
Reclaimed Stone
Original boulders from the Medipally site, broken and used for Retrace’s compound walls.

The home controls its environment
1.
All the openings are integrated to the courtyard. The courtyard enables cross ventilation in all rooms, even through the more spacious of homes.
2.
Sloped roofs project outwards to block direct sunlight on the walls, and to enable cooling and rainwater runoff.
3.
Due to the high heat gained on the walls of the villa, all sides of the sloped roof are projected outward to block direct sunlight.
4.
The projected areas are further divided into balconies. The spaces are also fitted with louvres and partitions to add a privacy layer.
5.
The immediate surroundings of the villa are covered with divisions to reduce the amount of indirect sunlight reflecting off the ground.
6.
The villa plan is extruded into a cuboidal form with a recession for the
main door, increasing shade for the entryway.
7.
The south side of the villa is surrounded with a row of trees to prevent the evening sunlight from heating up the house.
